The scriptures instruct that we should let brotherly love continue. But what if you were paid a bad coin for being good? Would you let brotherly continue?
“After caring for her welfare and upkeep for 6 months, she came for my life and happiness.” Dorcas said.
“Is it a crime to show brotherly love?” She asked.
I was quiet. And after a while, I asked in a soliloquy, “Should Brotherly Love Continue?” Well, this is a long story cut short. So, let me share in detail.
Her Show of Brotherly Love
Dorcas, a very generous and kindhearted woman under certain circumstances, took to house her old-time friend, Emem.
Emem’s joblessness led to her inability to pay her bills, and Dorcas’ benevolence afforded her a free shelter, food, and clothing.
The Conceal Against Her Brotherly Love
After six months of free stay, Emem concealed evil in her heart towards Dorcas.
“Since she has given me everything I ask, I will take her joy as well.” Emem said.
Two months later, Dorcas started having unnecessary issues with her loving husband, who turned out to be different, insisting that Emem should leave the house.
It was later she knew that the friend she was caring for was actually trying to take over her home.
“The moment I realized it, I had to send her out of my house. Also, I’ve decided never to help anyone again!” Dorcas said.
“But Pastor, didn’t the Bible say we should love one another and that we should let brotherly love continue? Why is this happening to me?” She asked calmly.
“All I did was show Emem how much I care. Is this how I get paid for my benevolence?” She added with a saddened look.

Should Brotherly Love Continue?
I couldn’t say much but calm her down with words of encouragement.
Do you remember what the scripture demands from us in general? It demands that we let brotherly love continue.
“Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honor, preferring one another.” (Romans 12:10).
Therefore, should we let brotherly love continue? Yes!
No matter what people do to us in exchange for being good, we should never let those things make us become the opposite.
If we do, the possibility of the betterment of things becomes low.
Remember the saying, “Two wrongs can’t make a right,” the same way it is with two hates making a home? Imagine how terrible such would be.
The Reason Why Brotherly Love Should Continue
The truth be told, the world cannot survive without brotherly love being in existence.
When we talk about brotherly love, we are referring to caring for one another.
“But as touching brotherly love, you need not that I write unto you, for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.” (1 Thessalonians 4:9).
Identically and authoritatively, God loves us and commands us to do the same to one another.
God’s love for mankind reveals the importance of brotherly love. Although we wronged God by disobeying His biddings, He still loves us.
Let Brotherly Love Continue
“But God commends his love toward us in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8).
Just as our sins couldn’t change God, we shouldn’t allow other people’s sins to change us.
This may look impossible with man, but with God, nothing shall be impossible.
Therefore, beloved brothers and sisters, friends and families, “Let brotherly love continue.”
“Be not forgetful to entertain strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” (Hebrews 13:2).
